Pollinator Garden Committee Chair 2025-2026: Bonnie Brodman
The purpose of the pollinator garden committee is to provide a habitat for pollinators whose populations are decreasing year after year due to habitat loss. Our goal is to fill the garden with the food they need to sustain themselves. We also hope to be an educational resource for those interested in this problem. In addition, we are endeavoring to create a place of peaceful beauty for people to enjoy. Spring through Fall the committee meets every Tuesday at 9 AM to maintain the garden. We welcome new members.
Local Brownie Troops Learn about Pollinators
The Brownie Troop’s visit was a resounding success. Thirty young girls, kindergarteners and first graders in their uniforms, and one younger brother arrived after school. All members of the troop were accompanied by their mothers.
The tour commenced with a visit to the garden. Subsequently, Bonnie engaged the children in a discussion on the subject of pollen, pollination, and pollinators. They expressed a wealth of knowledge on the topic.
Following the educational session, each child received a six-inch flower pot adorned with stickers depicting pollinators and a smiling sun with googly eyes. Once the personalized flower pots were completed, each child was provided with a marigold seedling, which they subsequently planted in their prepared pots. The children’s faces lit up with joy as they witnessed the transformation of their creations. The finished products were diverse and charming.
The mothers of the children also expressed their appreciation for the activity, as evidenced by the numerous thank-you notes the Garden Club received. The event was thoroughly enjoyable, and nine members of the Pollinator Garden committee attended.
