Our History
The Garden Club of Long Beach Island grew from a small group of garden lovers in the late 1950s. An early interest in planting trees and shrubs grew into a shared commitment to gardening, conservation and the beauty of our Island.
Rooted Together
Gardening brings us together. Caring for Long Beach Island gives our work purpose. Through public gardens, environmental education, scholarships and hands-on outreach, we share our love of plants while giving back to the people and places around us.
Our Gardens
Our members help care for gardens that bring beauty, learning and a little quiet enjoyment to Long Beach Island. Each has its own character, with thoughtful plantings and dedicated volunteers helping it thrive.
Our Mission
To further, in every way, interest in gardening and kindred subjects and to cooperate with all programs for the improvement in planting, conservation, environment and beautification of our island.

Barnegat Light Historical Museum

The Edith Duff Gwinn Garden, which envelops the Barnegat Light Museum at the intersection of 5th and Central, stands as one of the most enchanting gardens on Long Beach Island. It is named in honor of one of its founders and is diligently maintained by a dedicated group of members from the Garden Club of LBI.
The garden encompasses a variety of distinct areas that exhibit an array of unique trees, shrubs, and plants. There exists a native plant garden, a section dedicated to drought-tolerant flora, and zones that feature shade-loving species. Many of the trees and shrubs are indigenous to the coastal region of New Jersey.
Edith Duff Gwinn Garden is not merely an enjoyable destination to explore throughout the year; it also serves as an enlightening venue to discover the diverse flora that thrives on Long Beach Island.
Beach Haven Library Gardens
The Beach Haven Library Gardens was started in 1996 and has been maintained by the Garden Club since that time. Each Monday, from May to November, you’ll find a dedicated group of workers at this garden planning, planting and, yes, even doing the occasional photo op!
Pollinator Garden
The purpose of the pollinator garden committee is to provide a habitat for pollinators whose populations are decreasing year after year due to habitat loss. Our goal is to fill the garden with the food they need to sustain themselves. We also hope to be an educational resource for those interested in this problem. In addition, we are endeavoring to create a place of peaceful beauty for people to enjoy. Spring through Fall the committee meets every Tuesday at 9 AM to maintain the garden. We welcome new members.
