On Monday, July 22,2026 The Environmental Committee participated in the annual Stafford Green Fair event sponsored by Stafford Township. For this Sustainable Jersey event, our committee provided a display of resources focused on protecting our fragile environment including environmentally friendly gardening tips as well as resources for reducing single use plastics. Conversations about bee baths and native plants as well as Honey Bee Crowns were a hit. The newly recruited “honey bees†could be seen buzzing around the fair throughout the rest of the event including at a concert after the fair!
With the Skip the Stuff Law scheduled to go into effect on August 1st in New Jersey, we continued to encourage participants to go the extra step by packing cutlery in their cars as an alternative to asking for “the stuff.†Samples of cutlery wrapped in cloth napkins inside small bags with our garden club stickers were offered to adult visitors. At this point we have totally “sold out†of our free giveaway, but will be looking for more napkins and cutlery at meetings in the fall.
A special thanks to Chris Krill, Linda Kragie, Doris McKee, Gail McGratten and Marge Selfridge for their help with this event and to Barb Cona for pictures posted here.
