Intergenerational

Intergenerational Chair 2025-2026: Bev Reitinger

The Intergenerational Committee brings Garden Club members together with local students, parents and grandparents several times each year at Long Beach Island schools. Through hands-on floral projects, children learn about plants, design and creativity while spending time with different generations. The programs are intentionally social and educational, helping students build an appreciation for flowers and nature while encouraging family participation, friendship and community service.

Throughout 2024 and 2025, activities included spring and Easter arrangements, Halloween-themed centerpieces, Thanksgiving floral designs and patriotic red, white and blue arrangements for Memorial Day. Students also created centerpieces and cards for local senior programs, including the Stafford Senior Citizens Prom, connecting the floral-design experience with volunteerism and giving back. Other projects introduced children to greenery, seasonal flowers and wildflower seeds, with each event designed to be creative, welcoming and shared across generations.

The  Intergenerational Committee meets with students and their special guests four times a year at the Beach Haven School and Long Beach Island Grade School to create beautiful flower arrangements and to learn from each other.
