Each year on the first of May, The Garden Club of LBI maintains a cherished tradition by delivering delightful flower baskets to friends and neighbors who could use a bit of cheer. This year, nineteen members of The Garden Club opted to carry on this long-standing practice. The members, led by JoAnne McKee, assembled at the Bay Avenue Community Center in Manahawkin, where they enjoyed one another’s company while crafting the baskets.
The flower selection for the baskets incorporated a variety of flowers such as roses, baby’s breath, asters, alstroemeria, hypericum, balloon flowers, mums, snapdragons, carnations, and solidagos. The addition of lush greenery was collected from the club members’ own garden adding a lovely touch. In total, forty-three baskets were meticulously assembled and finished.
Following the basket preparation, the members personally delivered the floral arrangements and extended warm greetings to the recipients. Not only were the flowers delivered to friends and neighbors but also included various organizations and establishments in the community. The baskets graced Southern Ocean County Hospital and Cancer Center, the hospital residency, Genesis Health Center, Ocean County Library – LBI Branch in Surf City, LBI Health Department and the St. Francis Community Center!
Kay Gould was one of the recipients of our May Day Baskets. Kay will be 101 on July 5! She was also a member of The Garden Club of LBI for over 35 years!!
